This was the result of years of verbal abuse at school. Having to carry a violin every week left me open to ridicule. This continued into my late teens where, just for being different, I was subjected to the same, if not worse, abuse. So it’s a song about that, and the resilience to keep going. And the goal of having the last laugh.

Lyrics

Whispers, from behind my head
Everywhere I go they’re always there
They say ‘Look at him. He’s changed so much
Since then. When we were friends’
What have they done to me I haven’t changed at all
It’s them. I’m up against the wall
Eyes sharp. Watching my every move.
I’ve got to get away from all of this

Night Talk
It’s all over the town it’s all
Night Talk
Trying to rip me down with their
Night Talk
Every word in the book it’s all
Night Talk
Cos of the way I look.

Listen to the things they say
I find it hard for me to turn away
They say ‘The way he acts when he goes out
He must be one of those boys without a doubt’
They talk so low and yet to me it’s so clear
I turn around
But no they disappear
They go behind my back
Instead of to my face
They’ll try their best to make me a disgrace with all of their
Night Talk
It’s all over the town it’s all
Night Talk
Trying to rip me down with their
Night Talk
Every word in the book it’s all
Night Talk
Cos of the way I look.

Oh no. It won’t get me down
I’ll carry on. Keep going on the town
And one day, when we make it great
It’s gonna back fire into their face
All of this

Night Talk
It’s all over the town it’s all
Night Talk
Trying to rip me down with their
Night Talk
Every word in the book it’s all
Night Talk
Cos of the way I look.
